چکیده

The oceanic tidal angular momentum (OTAM) has been demonstrated to be the primary cause for the diurnal and semidiurnal variations in the Earth's rotational rate, or AUT1. Three ocean tide models derived from the Topex/Poseidon altimetry mission are employed to yield predictions of AUT1 for eight major diurnal/semidiurnal fides. The predictions are compared with geodetic determinations ofAUT1 from the verylong-baseline interferometry data both for long-term observations and during intensive campaigns. The agreement is good, with discrepancies typically within 2-3 gs. Systematic discrepancies observed for the well-determined M 2 tide clearly reveal the contribution of the Earth's spin libration.

Diurnal/semidiurnal polar motion excited by oceanic tidal angular momentum

The axial component of the oceanic tidal angular momentum (OTAM) has been demonstrated tobe responsible for most of the diurnal and semidiurnal variations in Earth's rotational rate. In this paper we study the equatorial components of OTAM and their corresponding effects on the orientation of Earth's rotational axis, or polar motion. Three ocean tide models derived from TOPEX/Poseidon satellite...

Oceanic tidal angular momentum and Earth's rotation variations

Luni-solar tides affect Earth's rotation in a variety of ways. We give an overview of the physics and focus on the excitation of Earth rotational variations by ocean tides under the conservation of angular momentum. Various models for diurnal and semidiurnal tidal height and tidal current fields have been derived, following a legacy of a number of theoretical tide models, from the Topex/Poseido...

Diurnal and Semidiurnal Variations in the Earth's Rotation Rate Induced by Oceanic Tides.

Recent space-geodetic observations have revealed daily and subdaily variations in the Earth's rotation rate. Although spectral analysis suggests that the variations are primarily of tidal origin, comparisons to previous theoretical predictions based on various ocean models have been less than satisfactory. This disagreement is partly caused by deficiencies in physical modeling. Rotation predict...

Tides and Their Dynamics over the Sunda Shelf of the Southern South China Sea

A three-dimensional Regional Ocean Modelling System is used to study the tidal characteristics and their dynamics in the Sunda Shelf of the southern South China Sea. In this model, the outer domain is set with a 25 km resolution and the inner one, with a 9 km resolution. Calculations are performed on the inner domain. The model is forced at the sea surface by climatological monthly mean wind st...

High Frequency Variations of Earth Rotation Parameters from GPS and GLONASS Observations

The Earth's rotation undergoes changes with the influence of geophysical factors, such as Earth's surface fluid mass redistribution of the atmosphere, ocean and hydrology. However, variations of Earth Rotation Parameters (ERP) are still not well understood, particularly the short-period variations (e.g., diurnal and semi-diurnal variations) and their causes. In this paper, the hourly time serie...
